1 DAY IN TONLESAP – WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?

Explore rural life in Cambodia on a guided tour of Tonle Sap Lake to visit the floating villages of Siem Reap. See floating schools, markets and the famous stilt houses. Visit the largest fresh water lake in South East Asia. You’ll sample tasty Khmer cuisine as you explore the Angkor temples on foot, hike through the jungle to ancient Hindu sculptures carved into the riverbed and board a boat on Tonle Sap to see floating villages around the lake – an unbelievable adventure!
We travel southeast to one of the largest and least-visited villages on the Tonle Sap Lake, Kompong Khleang, about 55km from Siem Reap. It has a population of about 10,000 people, all of whom make a living from the fishing industry. We explore the canals (wet season) or streets (dry season) of this incredible town. In the wet season, the houses appear to be floating, as water laps at the verandas, but in the dry season towering stilts are revealed, the houses almost like wooden skyscrapers.

Morning, pick up you at the hotel.
You will take a boat trip around the lake to see the floating villages. The flooded mangrove forest that surrounds the area is home to a variety of wildlife, including crab-eating macaques. Get a taste of local life, ruled by the monsoon rain and water-based agriculture.
Then take the backroads back to town and witness seasonal agricultural activities, such as cricket catching, rice planting and harvesting, fish smoking, fish paste production (called prohoc in Khmer) and duck farming. You will visit a Buddhist monastery along the journey.
