Thailand is the destination for travelers who want to experience an entirely new way of living! Thailand and it’s surrounding countries offer a new perspective of the world – one of simplicity, generosity, and kindness. It’s a refreshing breath of air that will leave a forever lasting impression. Let Idealtravelasia suggest you which activities you should take part in when visiting Thailand.
1. TEMPLE HOP AROUND BANGKOK
This is a must do and pretty much what all newcomers want to do. The temples are absolutely stunning with ornate detailing and beautiful greenery. Visitors will get to experience ancient traditions, like observing monks during prayer, participating in rituals, removing shoes before entering the temples, and dressing in the appropriate garb.
The temples and their gardens are massive so be prepared to spend an entire day or two exploring these beauties.
2. SHOP ON KHAO SAN ROAD
Khao San Road is dubbed as the “party scene” due to extremely low cost lodging, late night bars, and the overall atmosphere. Yes, it’s a bit dirty and strange BUT so much fun! If you love jewelry, gypsy pants, and handbags – ladies this is your heaven! And for guys, there’s plenty of fun t-shirts, gadgets, and gizmos to keep you interested.
This is also where tons of “street food” is sold for an astonishing price. Fresh fruit smoothies, banana and peanut butter crepes, and chicken pad thai ALL under $2. It’s crazy awesome! Even if cheap and budget are not in your travel plans, at least take a stroll down Khao San road to say ya did!
3. TAKE A COOKING CLASS
This was one of the best experiences and memories, hands down.
If you're one of the millions of budding cooks around the world who would like to make your own Thai food, then a cooking class is for you. Learn directly from professional Thai cooks who will teach you about the flavours, ingredients and techniques in cooking Thai food. You'll get to taste the food as you go. And finally, at the end of your class, you'll get an apron and certificate to take home with you.
4. HANG OUT WITH ELEPHANTS
The elephant is the national animal of the Land of Smiles and an obligatory must-see for almost every tourist traveling to Thailand. However due to the high demand for activities involving them these animals are treated poorly, often suffering abuse while living under harsh and painful conditions. Fortunately there is another trend on the horizon – those trying to protect this national treasure.
The Thai Elephant Home Maetang close to Chiang Mai believes that elephants should live as normal a life in nature as possible. Visitors will not only enjoy a personal one-on-one time with elephants but will also be educated about elephant care and conservation of the surrounding habitat.
5. DIVING IN KOH TAO
For people who are into diving Thailand is pretty high up on the go-to lists not only because of the magnificent underwater world but also the comparatively little costs for courses. Koh Tao, a small island down far south in the Gulf of Thailand, is almost exclusively making income from scuba diving tourism.
With the drastic increase of visitors in recent times, Mother Nature has been hit hardest as a result of overdevelopment in the area. The New Heaven Diving School offers next to regular diving courses also a marine conservation course where you will understand how to treat marine environment and wildlife and gain hands-on experience on coral reef ecology, research, protection and restoration projects. If you love colorful fishies and want to enjoy them also in the future, go ahead!
